ROC of AGES
The copy reads:
“Being 40 is great, especially when you look 30!”
At the bottom it states “We keep our promises.”
EFFECTIVE or DEFECTIVE
Where would you like me to start? If you’re giving me back 10 years of my life, where do I sign up? Secondly, why is the billboard in grayscale, are sales that low that they can’t go full colour? Furthermore, why isn’t Adobe dropping adds within the add with more appropriate copy like: “dream in grayscale!”
In all honesty Adobe should get into the cosmetics business, now all they’d have to do is invent an airbrush that actually works in real time.
IS IT ROC SOLID?
Smoothes and Slims the Look of your Silhouette RoC‘s latest generation in high performance cellulite treatment provides advanced efficacy that is clinically proven. The new formula contains a cocktail of effective ingredients to help you take action against the appearance of cellulite. RoC Retinol Anti-Cellulite contains a concentrate of retinol, caffeine, and RoC’s new “lipo-reduction agent” to help firm skin and give the silhouette a redefined appearance.
THE SANDS of TIME
(from an article in The Globe and Mail April 14, 2007)
Yet some of the 10,000 ingredients in beauty products are suspected or confirmed carcinogens, hormone-mimicking chemicals or substances linked to birth defects. And in an age of increasing fear over chemical exposures, the $5.3-billion cosmetics industry is poised to become the new frontier for health and eco-minded consumers.
Some compounds in personal-care products are worth watching out for:
Lead acetate: A known reproductive toxin banned in the European Union but found in some hair dyes and cleansers in North America.
Formaldehyde: A known carcinogen found in some nail products.
Toluene: A possible reproductive or developmental toxin found in some nail polishes.
Petroleum distillates: Possible carcinogen prohibited in the EU, but found in some mascara, perfume and lipstick in North America.
Ethyl acrylate: A possible carcinogen found in some mascara.
Coal tar: A known carcinogen found in dandruff shampoos, anti-itch creams and hair dyes.
Dibutyl phthalate: An endocrine disruptor and possible reproductive or developmental toxin found in some nail polish, perfume and hair spray.
Sodium lauryl sulfate: A skin irritant prone to contamination by a probable carcinogen called 1,4-dioxane used in many soaps and shampoos for its foaming properties.
Methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl paraben: Endocrine disruptors and possible breast carcinogens used as a preservative in cosmetics such as lotions and shampoos.
SAMPLE of INGREDIENTS from ROC:
BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene):
An antioxidant that is used in cosmetics, jet fuels and embalming fluid.
(first you have formaldehyde which is used to preserve dead things and now we have embalming? And this stuff makes you look younger?) According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (part of the World Health Organization), BHT and BHA are considered carcinogenic.(1)
CHLOROHEXIDNE GLUCONATE:
Is a chemical antiseptic used in mouthwash designed to kill dental plaque and other oral bacteria. It is also used in other non-dental applications such as general skin cleansing. Products containing it in high concentrations (no inference that ROC does) must be kept away from eyes (crow’s feet?) and the inner ear. (2)

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE
Stating the obvious, this particular product is highlighted to raise awareness of the issues of the psychology of marketing in media to sell products and more importantly the counterproductive effects these products actually have.

BREEZE!!!! Now, give me your nuts!!!
Spring’s got this little rodent in a frisky mood! But I’m not sure that the makers of ALMOND BREEZE had puffy tailed rodents in mind as their primary market. However, let it be known that buff4 is an equal opportunist and who better to have on your team for testing label claims and quality assurance than the fearless squirrel?
First label claim states that “It’s delicious anytime of the day.” For Scamp, right about now suits him fine.
He’s curious to determine if these are in fact ‘made from real almonds.’
He can’t wait to enjoy the 45% fewer calories this bevvie has to offer over those soy nuts. At 60 calories per glass with only 7 g of sugar and no cholesterol you can see why he’s anxious.
Now that it has his approval, he’s sold on the merits of ‘the Preferred Taste Alternative’ provided by Blue Diamond’s Growers’ Co-op. As they say, word of mouth is the best referral medium and we can see he’s doing a fine job here!

Look’s like BLUE DIAMOND can’t fool mother nature and the packaging on ALMOND BREEZE is pretty accurate!

PORN, BEER, SMOKES and BBQ’d FARE! HEAVEN on EARTH!
Taste Worth Dying For® is more than just a slogan, it’s the core of a philosophy which understands that life is short so one should “Eat, Drink, and be Merry!”
The Heart Attack Grill make no bones about their mission and it seems like they’re not interested in taking any prisoners either!
SAMPLES FROM THEIR MENU:
Flatliner Fries (cooked in pure lard),
Cigarettes,
Beer,
Double, Triple and Quadruple Bypass Surgery Burger

Wheelchair service to your auto by a hot ‘nurse’!
EFFECTIVE or DEFECTIVE
You have to tip your hat off to a marketing campaign that has not expended one penny on advertising except for the maintenance of a website (www.heartattackgrill.com) yet has attracted international attention.
HOT OFF THE GRILL
Mix the elements of 8,000-calorie burgers, a quarrel with a local Nursing Association, beer and you have a recipe for attention. Joe Basso, the owner is considering opening about ten more locations worldwide! Personally, I think ‘Toronto the Good’ is fertile ground for this operation
IF YOU CAN’T BEAT ‘EM, JOIN EM!
“Though he started out operating a chain of personal fitness training studios, Basso heard so much talk from clients about what they did on their “diet cheat days” he decided the Heart Attack Grill he wrote about in his thesis could be the ultimate place to go for a dose of gluttony.” (source: entrepreneur.com)
CATCHING MY BREATH
I hope their staff can actually recognize the signs of a heart attack if one were ever to occur.
